Back in the Saddle

Hello folks, I know it's been a while since you've heard from us and that's because things have slowed down as parties involved figure out their next steps.
However...
Last night, Bucketworks opened her doors for the first public event since the flood. We had to do some seriously fancy footwork to turn the Playspace into a gallery but with a little hard work and some buckety creativity we made it work. IMNSHO, that place looked FANTASTIC! Really, actually quite appropriate for an urban art show. Brooklynn Hill & Sheena Jones from Bucketworks organizational member, Black Tie Events & Promotions did an amazing job pulling together some really great artists for their very first gallery show. The turnout reached critical mass at 62 attendees and 6 works were sold. (I, myself, could not resist buying a beautiful piece by artist Symphony Swan.) Take a look at the Flickr sets posted by our Operations Coordinator, Patrick Schley and myself.

Since we had power restored early last week we'll be working to accomodate our events in the spaces that were unaffected by the storm. The Playspace, Fab Lab and Greenhouse will house everything currently on our schedule. We've had to limit our open hours to special events, but we are ready to welcome back our professional members into the space.
To those of you who have made donations, I would like to thank you from the bottom of the hearts of the entire Bucketworks staff. Your support is so important to us right now. We can also welcome volunteers into the building now. This weekend we would like to ask those who have volunteered to help cleanup to... well... help us cleanup. Since we'll be using some spaces for things they weren't originally intended for, we'll need to do some cleaning up and moving around. There's also a burgeoning population of weeds we would like to see routed from our grounds. Have a few hours this weekend? Maybe you have some plants or wood chips you'd like to donate? Help us beautify the grounds, clear out the Fab Lab so that it can become a multi-function space, and clean up some of the stage equipment in the Playspace to make facilitating multiple events a little less exhausting. If you're interested in helping out, email me, Jenn Turner and let me know. We'll have three teams - Grounds Crew, Fab Lab Crew, and Playspace Crew. Let me know which one you're interested in joining, and what time you can be there. Only have 1/2 an hour? Pull some weeds or pick up some garbage! Got a couple of hours to spare? Help move artwork in a safe place or move around some televisions. (That's right, I said television-s!)
We look forward to the time that we can open our doors, fully restored but until that time we look forward to seeing you at the Final Cut Pro Demo by Daniel Hirsch tomorrow, the Capoeira Batizado, and the opening of Spiral Theatre's new shoe, Wait Until Dark. We'll be adding more events to the July calendar too, so keep your eye on the site and your inbox where the Weekly Splash will be re-appearing soon. (Maybe today!)
